“[The incident] demonstrates that even gold standard cybersecurity solutions in the market need to be cautious about how they frame what they’re capable of doing, based on the fact that, on any given day, something could go terribly wrong,” said Chris Cummiskey, a former DHS official who also served as chief information officer for the State of Arizona.

According to Chris Cummiskey, CEO of Cummiskey Strategic Solutions and a former official with the US Department of Homeland Security who oversaw the agency's IT functions, the problem of hydra-headed IT disruptions will likely worsen as technology works its way deeper into our lives.
"Even the best are going to falter at times," Cummiskey said. "And when it's combined with the Microsoft platform, which it was in this instance, that's really going to amplify the disruptions that you're seeing."

“I was stunned to see this kind of ripple effect,” said Chris Cummiskey, a cybersecurity expert and former Department of Homeland Security official. While CrowdStrike is often seen as the gold standard in cyber protection, he said this event may call for reviewing internal practices. “You don’t want to hit one button and have this kind of worldwide meltdown occur,” he said.
The global cybersecurity incident started early Friday with CrowdStrike sending a defective content file to Microsoft platforms across its extensive client list of global governments and corporations - causing outages in aviation, healthcare and other critical infrastructure sectors.
